Margaret River ~ Laurance Winery February 26, 2008

img_8589.jpgWell I had an absolutely wonderful weekend away with a friend (no kids) to Margaret River and we visited some amazing wineries on our travels. I thought that one of them deserved a special mention as it went down as my favourite for the weekend.

Renowned for 2 things – strangely enough the first is their toilets – OMG!!! Amazing… and the Lady over the lake or as I have seen it referred to online “The chic on the stick” – I think I prefer the Lady over the lake myself! Apparently it was build without planning approval and caused quite a stir as it is not classed to be in the style of the winery region but they managed to get away with it and I am sure have appreciated the media attention that it created.

OK so I am not in the habit of taking snap shots of toilets but I did think that this one was worth it. This is the baby change room and the other toilets are equally impressive. This is in pic of one cubicle. Each one has its own wooden bench and basin, one of the carved mirrors as shown and an array of original artworks… Rightfully so they are probably the most talked about toilets in the region!

img_8583.jpg

Needless to say the winery is divine. The grounds are immaculate, the food was great, the wine was even better and although we went without the kids it has an awesome children’s playground as well.

Wine tasting is done at your table with your purchased wine plate. We went for the larger one and split it between us (I had to drive) and tasted 6 of their wines including the Rose’, Chardonnay and the white. I purchased their Rose’ and another special gift (can’t tell you what because she is probably going to read this before I give it to her!) but their gift range was excellent. They had a whole range of beautifully packaged wines in carry bags, with all the tools, bathrobes, beach towels you name it and they looked great. Their wine bottles are an amazing shape and I had to buy at least 1 bottle so I can keep one!

The grounds provide a lot to talk about from the Garden of Eden with its apple tree as you drive in to the above mentioned gold statue over the lake in her Titanic pose along to their amazing rose bushes with an eye-catching bird bath – a tribute to Steve Irwin.

For a good look at the famous “Lady” have a look at the Laurance Wines web site

All in all it was an A+ from me and we have bookmarked it as a definite place to visit with the kids.

Our Giveaway for February is one of our brand new Sterling Silver and Rainbow Moonstone Pendants.
Details of this giveaway can be found HERE What is an Amethyst?
An amethyst is a gorgeous purple coloured stone that forms naturally as crystals within rocks. They have been highly regarded for many years and can be quite expensive. With purple being the symbolic colour of royalty amethysts have adorned the royal crowns and jewels for many years.
The Greeks had interesting thoughts about amethysts…. a myth I am not so sure of… They believed that if you drank from an amethyst cup (if you could afford one) or if you wore an amethyst then you could rink as much as you liked and you would not become intoxicated. Strangely enough the word amethyst is actually derived from the Greek word “amethystos” which means sober! Even today the amethyst is believed to be a stabilising force for those struggling to overcome addictive behaviours.
On a more general note the amethyst stone is believed to be a calming tranquil influence that symbolises peace, channels positive energy and brings on pleasant dreams.

It is definitely a very popular stone and one of my favourites.

You will find a new range of amethyst in our sterling silver range – a great gift for those February birthdays!February Birth Stone:
Traditional Birthstone: Amethyst
Modern Birthstone: Amethyst
Amethyst is the lovely purple coloured stone that we have spoken about above and is said to bring peace and calm to your life, especially when worn in February by those born in the same month.
Please note: the web site will be closed from Thursday 6th March till Thursday 13th March while we attend the Expo and update our stock levels on the web site after the event. Our new sterling silver and dichroic glass pendants are one of a kind so if there is something you have your heart set on please place your orders before the expo as we can not guarantee we will have the stock afterwards.** As we are no longer stocking our children’s ranges please visit our blog regularly as we bring you our favourite online kids stores over the coming few months. Please feel free to contact me anytime

Where to buy Jewellery Stands????? February 12, 2008

Filed under: Funky Finds, Jewellery & Accessories — marakye @ 11:38 am

Oh I LOVE jewellery stands and I mean practical and resonably priced jewellery stands. I have a few favourite stockists but one of the best is SBK Trade. You can find all of Brett’s great stock on his eBay store by going through his web site link http://www.sbktrade.com.au

The most popular stand that I have found for use at home is the Counter top display stand for earrings. It is really cheap, compact and is fantastic for long earrings. These are the ones that I always recommend to friends. So have a look at their web site – they have some fantastic display cases which are not only great for me as a business owner (especially with the expo coming up) but are also great for you all at home. They are usually available in a few colours like, blue, pink & clear but you will have to go online to see what they have in stock at any given time.

stand15pink.jpg They are generally listed for about $6.95 + postage

Another favourite for those of you who have heaps of rings and no where to store them is the velvet covered ring display. It is narrow and will fit into your draw with all of your rings on display & no chance of you having to search for them again!

ring-display.jpg They retail for around $20 + postage

Remember if you look after your jewellery and keep it organised and on display stands you are more likely to change it more often and have that perfect piece to match every outfit. You will have compliments flooding in about your matching jewellery!

Happy Shopping..

Amazing New Glass February 6, 2008

Filed under: In the Kiln — marakye @ 1:41 pm

img_8318.jpgOh I had fun today!   It was time for more glass shopping for me so off I went to my favourite shop and an hour later and a much lighter wallet I returned home with my new collection of glass. They had some fabulous new pieces so I am really looking forward to sitting down tomorrow night and cutting away to create some more great pendants.img_8323.jpg

I noticed when my last lot came back after being fired that I had quite a lot of orange coloured pendants so I tried to branch out and get some new exciting colours. As always blue was very popular but I picked up some great pinks / purples and greens as well as a dash of red so I am looking forward to working with it all.img_8321.jpg

And don’t you just love this piece of blue glass below. It is a backing glass called Caribbean Blue. I think it is fabulous.img_8326.jpg

Additional comments to businesses running a web site: I have removed all comments regarding Marakye from this section but I sincerely thankyou all for your amazing feedback and your kind words – you give me inspiration and I am glad that Marakye gives so many of you inspiration as well. Thankyou!

* If I have a question I email I would like it answered within 2 days not a week later like some.

* The ‘human touch’ is the most important thing on a web page. Having a professional design the page is fine if you are after perfection, not as good if you want to keep customers coming back. You must make the customer feel that you are talking directly to him/her.

* I think the most important thing on a website and in ordering a product is the privacy and confidentiality of the buyers details, especially their payment details.

* A newsletter is also good for people who are new to the site and for everyone to keep updated with information.

* I Think web sites should be Simple in set out, that is not too much info all on one page

* prices of items and their pictures be clearly seen

* I am a first impressions person. A website needs to look professional, the images crisp, the layout balanced and I need to be able to navigate easily and search.

* Site’s that are to busy make it very hard to find what you are looking for… Keep it simple stupid is my motto in life…
