Pretty in Pink & Purple March 21, 2008

dpe0004.jpg I don’t know whether it is all of the brightly coloured Easter Egg Wrappers or the excitement of the kids at Easter (or the sugar fix kicking in) but it always reminds me of a bright and happy time. dpe0011.jpgI am adding some of the hundreds of new dichroic pendants that I have made and wanted to share my pretty in Pink & Purple ones with you all!

Category Name Change ~ In the Kiln! March 4, 2008

Well my recent trip to Margaret River found me standing in an amazing glass gallery which was suitably names “the Meling Pot”…. which just happened to be the name of one of my blog categories!

So to avoid any confusion I have changed the category name to “In the Kiln” ~ same great stuff, just a different name.

If you would like to take a look at their amazing work you can do so either at their gallery in Margaret River (in the main street) or they have some work online http://www.margaret-river-online.com.au/meltingpot/index.html

Gerry Reilly (the glass artist from the Melting Pot) creates some of the most amazing glass pieces I have seen and am also proud to have on show in my lounge room (way out of the reach of my darling’s little fingers at the moment).

He inspires me to work harder to develop my skills in working with glass!

Amazing New Glass February 6, 2008

img_8318.jpgOh I had fun today!   It was time for more glass shopping for me so off I went to my favourite shop and an hour later and a much lighter wallet I returned home with my new collection of glass. They had some fabulous new pieces so I am really looking forward to sitting down tomorrow night and cutting away to create some more great pendants.img_8323.jpg

I noticed when my last lot came back after being fired that I had quite a lot of orange coloured pendants so I tried to branch out and get some new exciting colours. As always blue was very popular but I picked up some great pinks / purples and greens as well as a dash of red so I am looking forward to working with it all.img_8321.jpg

And don’t you just love this piece of blue glass below. It is a backing glass called Caribbean Blue. I think it is fabulous.img_8326.jpg

My Latest Work has been Fired! February 4, 2008

img_8276.jpg I have just been to pick up my latest work that has just been fired and here it is… The results of my late night efforts. Lots more work to do now though with attaching bails and photographing them all ready to upload ot the web site.

I am off to buy more glass tomorrow to really get going and make more for the Women’s Showcase Expo in less than 5 weeks time (Ahhhhh!)…….

Glass, Glass & More Glass February 1, 2008

A few long, long nights and I have just finished making 84 (yes, I said 84) new dichroic pendants. Well when I say finished I should rephrase that to say that I hand cut all of the glass and assembled it ready to be fired. It will be fired over the next few days and then all of the bails need to be attached.

Needless to say though I am feeling extremely proud of my efforts even though I am creatively drained. I am also a long way off my goal for the expo. I have 5 weeks today until the expo starts and by no means do I want to be understocked….

So off to buy more glass tomorrow and back to the cutting table for me, equipped with my bandaid covered thumbs & superglued fingers….

I love working with glass and especially dichroic glass. The colours, the texture and the possibilities continue to amaze me. I still have so much to learn but my visions of my glass studio are very clear so you will be seeing more and more glass creations over the next few years as my knowledge, skills, equipment and my studio evolve.

The most amazing thing for me in regards to working with glass is the fact that even when I am at my table with my supplies all set out and ready to go with ideas in my mind I still have no idea what creation is going to emerge. Then even more rewarding is to see the gorgeous cabochon after it has been fired.
