Our Giveaway for February is one of our brand new Sterling Silver and Rainbow Moonstone Pendants. Details of this giveaway can be found HERE What is an Amethyst?
An amethyst is a gorgeous purple coloured stone that forms naturally as crystals within rocks. They have been highly regarded for many years and can be quite expensive. With purple being the symbolic colour of royalty amethysts have adorned the royal crowns and jewels for many years.
The Greeks had interesting thoughts about amethysts…. a myth I am not so sure of… They believed that if you drank from an amethyst cup (if you could afford one) or if you wore an amethyst then you could rink as much as you liked and you would not become intoxicated. Strangely enough the word amethyst is actually derived from the Greek word “amethystos” which means sober! Even today the amethyst is believed to be a stabilising force for those struggling to overcome addictive behaviours.
On a more general note the amethyst stone is believed to be a calming tranquil influence that symbolises peace, channels positive energy and brings on pleasant dreams.
It is definitely a very popular stone and one of my favourites.
You will find a new range of amethyst in our sterling silver range – a great gift for those February birthdays!February Birth Stone:
Traditional Birthstone: Amethyst
Modern Birthstone: Amethyst
Amethyst is the lovely purple coloured stone that we have spoken about above and is said to bring peace and calm to your life, especially when worn in February by those born in the same month. Please note: the web site will be closed from Thursday 6th March till Thursday 13th March while we attend the Expo and update our stock levels on the web site after the event. Welcome to 2008
Well 2008 has had a refreshing start and Marakye has had a bit of botox (not quite a face lift but on the way!)…
In 2008 we will be focussing on jewellery and bath products and by limiting our stock ranges to these we will be able to bring you the most stunning new designs that we have found not only here in Australia but from all over the country and around the world.
Over the coming months you will see some graphics changes on our web site as the toy images are replaced with some of our exciting new jewellery ranges. Bear with us… it all takes time!
We have introduced a Bridal Jewellery Category and have a tonne of brand new suppliers on board with lots of new jewellery popping into our store in the coming weeks.
As our newsletter members list grows at an epic rate we have decided to reduce our newsletters to one per month. Our inbox is increasingly filling with all of the great newsletters that we subscribe to and we are sure yours are as well so although we have so much to tell you we think it is important not to clutter your inboxes as well.
So sit back and enjoy our newsletter and grab a cuppa and browse our new web site.

What is a Fresh Water Pearl?
A fresh water pearl is a pearl that has been cultered inside a mussel in a lake. A traditional pearl is cultered in an oyster in the ocean, they are salt water pearls, often called Akoya pearls. For this reason Fresh Water Pearls are less expensive than Akoya pearls but to some people they have more appeal due to the variation in colour and shape.
It is considered lucky to wear your birth stone but also that you will get the most benefit from wearing them in the month of your birth. Although people may or may not believe this most people are still curoius to know more about their birth stone!
January Birth Stone:
Traditional Birthstone: Garnet
Modern Birthstone: Garnet
Garnets come in a variety of colours however it is the commonly know red garnet that is the birthstone of January.
